Disputes specialist makes a return

Clyde & Co secures a strategic partner hire in Shanghai as it welcomes back disputes lawyer.

Nicholas Lum is re-join the Shanghai office as a partner in December 2019. Mr Lum will be joining from Ince, where he is a partner of their Shanghai office, and formerly the head of their Singapore office’s China practice group.

Company culture

Mr Lum had previously spent up to five years working in Clyde & Co’s Shanghai office shortly upon its establishment in 2006. He is a dispute resolution specialist with particular focus on international trade and commodities, shipping and shipbuilding and general commercial disputes. Ik Wei Chong, Asia managing director, Clyde & Co, says “We are pleased to be welcoming Nicholas back to Clyde & Co as a partner, which speaks volumes of both our firm and culture. Nicholas will spearhead our cross-border dispute resolution efforts from our China offices, and spend significant time in Singapore, working with our team across South East Asia.” Mr Chong added, “Nicholas will further bolster our common-law capabilities in our China offices, while driving our outbound investment agenda under the Belt & Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area.”

New hires

This appointment follows a series of appointments by the firm, with marine lawyer Cornelia Kunze, senior associate, this year transferred to Singapore to lead the German desk. The Singapore marine team has also welcomed Paul Collier, senior associate, who transferred from the London office earlier this month. The Clyde & Co marine practice worldwide now boats over 150 lawyers across 46 offices, providing expertise to clients throughout the maritime industry.
