Emerging markets: Communication is key

Three in four of the respondents to the ‘Emerging markets, risk and communications’ survey said they did business with emerging markets and one in two felt that communications should be an integral part of the legal function.
The research also revealed that when dealing with a disaster in an emerging market, two in three legal departments say their companies require the local team to seek approvals for each step – from key messages to changes in the plan. But 37 per cent said their local team was sufficiently empowered to propose and implement a communication plan.
The research was carried out in association with Equadorian law firm Tobar & Bustamant and is part of the GC Excellence Benchmarking series.
