The lay-offs have happened in Colorado, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennysylvania, Texas and West Virginia. Chief executive Susan Brewer said in statement: 'Due to continued low oil prices and the negative impact on domestic oil and gas producers, we have seen a contraction in isolated areas of legal work for some of our major energy clients. Accordingly, limited layoffs were implemented in both the attorney and non-attorney ranks.' (This firm is not to be confused with the international firm Steptoe & Johnson LLP.)

Houston and other hubs

Other firms - and particularly staff in other firms - will be watching closely as many practices were building up teams in Houston and other energy hubs until the latter part of last year. Source: ABA
