Firms appointed to UK national sport panel

Ten law firms have been selected for the inaugural legal panel advising 300 UK national sports bodies, according to a report in The Lawyer magazine.

Beating the competition: 10 firms ahead of the crowd

In total, 76 firms applied, with 30 invited to tender; 15 were then interviewed, and now the successful firms have been announced as: Bates Wells Braithwaite, Brabners Chaffe Street, Dolmans, Farrer & Co, Gateley, Moorhead James, Muckle, Pinsent Masons, Thomas Eggar, and Wright Hassall.
The successful firms will advise the sporting bodies for three years with an option of a fourth available.
The panel was organised following last September’s recognition by Sport England that recreational bodies found it difficult to access legal services because of the costs involved. Sport England then joined UK Sport, Sport Wales and the Sport and Recreation Alliance to establish a joint panel for the National Governing Bodies of Sport.
