Currently a barrister at the Australian bar with Sixth Floor Chambers, Mr Arnott will relocate to London to take the helm at Burford Capital. As managing director, Mr Arnott will be responsible to overseeing all of the funder’s litigation financing activities in the UK, Europe and Asia-Pacific regions, while also becoming director of bond-issuer subsidiary Burford Capital PLC. He will be replacing former Burford managing director Nick Rowles-Davies, who resigned from the business last month to launch a rival fund.

Global experience

After beginning his career at Cravath Swaine & Moore in New York, Mr Arnott practiced with Ashurst in London for seven years before joining Fried Frank in 2004 and eventually ascending to become the firm’s head of antitrust and competition in London. ‘[Mr Arnott] brings more than 20 years of commercial law experience in multiple legal jurisdictions that will assist us in meeting the increasingly global demands of our clients,’ said chief executive Christopher Bogart in a statement welcoming Mr Arnott to the business.
