Goldman Sachs leveraged finance group loses enthusiasm for Linklaters

A senior source in the Goldman Sachs leveraged finance team has told Legal Week that it will not work with Linklaters 'unless it is forced to'.

Linklaters has been frequently appointed by financial sponsors or banks to represent their interests in deals. Acting in these deals can be difficult as the interests of sponsors and banks can be significantly opposed.  Banks will often be able to chose their own legal teams in these deals but sponsors can have influence on the choice and could, in some cases, refuse to work with a particular firm.

Overall relationship

Both Goldman Sachs and Linklaters say that their relationship overall is strong. A second Goldman Sachs source told Legal Week that senior lawyers at Goldman Sachs continue to have a ‘very high regard’ for Linklaters. Source: Legal Week
