Gun industry is wholly protected against law suits, says Clinton

The gun sector is the 'only business in America that is wholly protected from any kind of liability', according to lawyer Hillary Clinton, the leading contender to be the Democratic candidate in the US presidential elections next year.

She said: 'Probably one of the most egregious, wrong, pieces of legislation that ever passed the Congress when it comes to this issue is to protect gun sellers and gun makers from liability. They are the only business in America that is wholly protected from any kind of liability. They can sell a gun to someone they know they shouldn't, and they won't be sued. There will be no consequences.'

False claim?

Ms Clinton was referring to George W Bush's Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. Website PolitiFact judges her claim to be 'false' on the grounds that some other industries also have significant protections and also that some claims can still be made against the gun sector.
