Henry Miller, Weil partner, top bankruptcy lawyer, dies

Henry Miller, the man who made bankruptcy law an acceptable area to practise in, and who handled Lehman Brothers, General Motors and American Airlines, has died, age 82.

Mr Miller joined Weil Gotshal & Manges in 1969 as a partner despite the fact that bankruptcy was not regarded as a sector the firm wanted to work in. But he was regarded as an 'outstanding' lawyer and was taken on more for that reason. Once there, he made an immediate impact. He acted on many of the landmark US bankruptcies over four decades at the firm. He regarded the decision of the US government to let Lehman Brothers collapse as 'a serious miscalculation'. He said: 'Lehman was a seismic event that ignited a global conflagration.' He also lectured regularly at the law schools of Columbia, Yale and New York University. He died of Loh Gehrig's Disease . His wife of 60 years, Ruth, survives him. Source: Financial Times
