The firm has two such locations, one in Belfast (which has gone from 20 to 200 staff) and in one Perth, Australia (which opened in October). Patrick St John, the firm's managing partner for strategic implementation, says that firms which take this route are likely to have greater consistency of service and control over quality.

Attractive to clients

Sonya Leydecker, HSF's chief executive officer, says that the firm is feeling the benefits of having the two sites: 'It has created, in effect, more work overall because it is attractive to clients.' She also says that there are benefits for the lawyers in the new units, with lawyers in the Belfast office being given opportunities similar to lawyers in the wider HSF network.
