Herbert Smith Freehills architect leaves to join Jones Day

After 24 years at the firm, Mark Crean, the former Freehills chair and deputy senior partner of the combined practice is now on gardening leave and negotiating the precise role he will play at Jones Day.

Sydney-based Mark Crean will leave Herbert Smith Freehills after his election defeat Javen

The Australian stood in the election last November for the post of senior partner of Herbert Smith Freehills but was defeated by London corporate partner James Palmer. Having held a string of senior management posts - including that of head of the Freehills corporate team and chair of the Herbert Smith Freehills risk management committee - Mr Crean will have the necessary experience to take various roles at Jones Day.

The managing partner of Herbert Smith Freehills in Australia, Jason Ricketts, said: 'We can confirm that Mark Crean has made a decision to leave the firm. We thank him for the significant contribution he has made to the success of our firm and wish him well for the future.' Mr Crean no longer appears on the personnel listing of Herbert Smith.
