HSF adds disputes team in Germany

Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has doubled the size of its disputes team in Germany with the hire of two partners and seven lawyers from litigation boutique Acker Görling & Schmalz (AGS Legal).

The team, which includes name partner Helmut Görling and partner Dirk Seiler, will join HSF’s Frankfurt office on 1 May and significantly add to its corporate crime and investigation practice.

HSF Germany managing partner Ralf Thaeter told The Lawyer that the team will bring a number of mandates for ‘blue chip German clients’, including a major instruction for Ford on an investigation by the US and German authorities into alleged bribery.

HSF global disputes head Justin D’Agostino commented: ‘Germany is naturally a key market for the firm, especially in light of our strategy to grow our EMEA platform.

‘Our new corporate crime and investigations offering in Germany will greatly enhance our ability to offer a full German disputes service to clients both domestic and from across our global network.’
