The conference – ‘The Road to 2030 in Latin America’ – will cover topics including energy transition and infrastructure challenges in the region, AI and law firm management trends, and regulatory issues amid a backdrop of perennial political uncertainty.
Central Bank of Peru president Julio Velarde is among the headline speakers, alongside Andrea de la Piedra, CEO and co-founder of Lima-based women empowerment labour organisation Aequales.
The conference will kick off on Wednesday (19 March) with opening remarks from the IBA’s current president, Jaime Carey, from Carey in Santiago and IBA Legal Practice Division chair Daniel del Rio from SMPS Legal in Mexico City.
The conference co-chairs are: Juan Manuel Mercant from Guyer & Regules in Montevideo, Uruguay; Francisco Roggero, from Zang Bergel & Viñes in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Paula Vieira de Oliveira, a New York-based partner at Brazilian firm Mattos Filho; and Luis Enrique Palacios, from Rodrigo Elias & Medrano in Lima.
Guest panellists across the three days of sessions include Juan Carlos Arribas from JP Morgan in Lima, Maria Isabel Echeverri from Cementos Argos in Medellin, Eliana Rubiano from the World Bank and Ignacio Imas Innella from IDB Invest in Bogota.
Lawyers from firms including Skadden Arps, Clifford Chance, McDermott Will & Emery, Paul Weiss, A&O Shearman and Jones Day, among others, will also be featuring as panellists.
Among the conference highlights are ‘The rise of cybersecurity attacks in Latin America’, with panellists including Sergio Andres Jaramillo from Nestle in Bogota and Alex Pesso from Microsoft in Santiago, and ‘ESG: Myth or reality?’, with panellists from Beccar Varela, Compañía Minera Antamina and Control Risks.
Also on the agenda are sessions on M&A trends, compliance, private equity, sustainable finance, class actions in Latin America, and a general counsel roundtable, featuring GCs from Mercado Libre, BBVA, Globant and Minerva Foods.
