American Lawyers Public Image Assocation, the legal marketing organisation that came up with the idea of Love Your Lawyer Day, asked the public to lay-off on the negative humour. It said: 'Is it too much to ask for people to refrain from lawyer bashing and telling tasteless lawyer jokes for a single day? Surely you can do it. And, if for some reason, you're unable to tame your tongue for that 24-hour span (like if you're a late-night talk show host), then donate $20 to charity for every joke you tell. Deal?'
Excitement
It is not clear, however, if the public - or even lawyers themselves - really complied. Orange County Bar, on the eve of the big day, tweeted: '#LoveYourLawyerDay is tomorrow and we can barely contain our excitement.' The CT Bar Association tweeted: 'Let me get this straight ... you want me to use 'love' and 'lawyer' in the same sentence?'. The New York Bar Association commented: 'NYSBA thanks all the lawyers who do the public good every day. Today is your day!'
Nelson Mandela
Chaumtoli Huq tweeted: 'On #LoveYourLawyerDay, remember Nelson Mandela. Lawyers not as hired guns, but social change makers'. Sources: American Lawyers Public Image Association; Twitter
