J&J becomes latest firm to settle with regulators

Pharma giant Johnson & Johnson is to pay over US$2.2bn as a settlement with federal and state authorities for kickbacks and other misdemeanours over the last ten years.

The company pleaded guilty to incorrect selling and marketing practices of drugs. The US Attorney-General Eric Holder is quoted in the Financial Times as saying: 'This multibillion-dollar resolution demonstrates the Justice Department’s firm commitment to preventing and combating all forms of healthcare fraud. And it proves our determination to hold accountable any corporation that breaks the law and enriches its bottom line at the expense of the American people.'
