The judge has been presiding over a trial in which Eike Batiste, once the country's richest man, stands accused of insider trading. The trial against the oil billionaire - listed as the world's seventh richest man by Forbes - is seen as a potential turning point in the troubled history of Brazilian justice. If Mr Batiste goes to jail he will be the first to do so for insider trading in the country.
