Historic attitudes favouring globalisation are fundamentally changing....
Kenyan lawyers have called for higher pay in a move to match legal fees in neighbouring Tanzania and Uganda. The Law Society is looking for scale fees to be increased by as much as 300 per cent in some cases.
According to The Nation, the demand has received support from the Attorney-General’s office, the Architectural Association of Kenya and the Association of Professional Societies of East Africa. However the Kenya Bankers Association has spoken out against the pay rise, saying that it will increase lending rates.
The Law Society has compiled a report on changes to the Advocates remuneration Order which, according to chairman Eric Mutua, was last amended in 2006 when rates went down.
