Mr Hagan will help to bulk up Freshfields' growing debt markets team, with the switch becoming official in April. Freshfields' newest partner has followed in the footsteps of former Kirkland & Ellis colleague and high-yield heavyweight Ward McKimm, who made the switch to Freshfields in June last year to co-head the firm's European leveraged finance team. Mr Hagan and Mr McKimm worked closely together at Kirkland, advising a range of high-profile clients including Bain Capital, CVC Capital Markets and KKR. Freshfields global finance group head David Trott said that bringing Mr Hagan onto the Freshfields team will help secure the firm's position as 'a first choice for European high yield transactions.'

Seven gone

The news of Mr Hagan's upcoming departure comes before the dust has even settled on Friday's announcement that a six-strong team of Kirkland equity partners will be leaving to set up a private equity team in the London office of US law firm Sidley Austin. Mr Hagan himself had a six-year career at Sidley Austin before joining Kirkland in 2013. Sources: The LawyerLegal Business
