Munich-based Hengeler Muller partner Achim Herfs is making the switch to Kirkland & Ellis, taking with him counsel Anna Schwander and senior associate Benjamin Leyendecker-Langner. All three will be coming on as partners at their new firm.
The coup marks the second major corporate hire for Kirkland in the region in the last 12 months after the firm picked up private equity partner Jörg Kirchner from Latham & Watkins in July last year. According to German magazine Juve, it is also the first time that a Hengeler Mueller partner has taken a team to a rival US firm.
'Achim Herfs is one of the most senior and well known corporate and capital markets lawyers in Germany,' said Kirkland corporate partner Volker Kullman to The Lawyer. 'Together with Anna and Benjamin, this team builds on our strong partner bench and capabilities across capital markets and corporate transactions as well as restructurings.'
