Kirkland nets US$20m fees from energy sector's biggest bankruptcy

Kirkland & Ellis has received $20.5m in fees and another $1.25m in expenses in its role as bankruptcy counsel to Energy Future Holdings Corp, the company that became the energy sector's biggest bankruptcy ever in April.

Other firms are earning smaller amounts. Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, special counsel to the Texas-based business, has earnt $630,000. Godfrey & Kahn SC, counsel to the fee committee, has received $580,000. Also working on the bankruptcy - as it files for Chapter 11 in the next few months - are Morrison & Foerster and Richards, Layton & Finger. Source: Bloomberg
