Large US firms see rise in number of data breaches

Nearly one quarter (23 per cent) of US law firms with over 500 lawyers were subject to data breaches last year, up from 17 per cent the year before, according to the 2015 Legal Technology Survey of the American Bar Association.

Firms with 100 or more lawyers saw a bigger jump, from 10 to 23 per cent. However, only five per cent of respondents said that the breaches were so serious that clients had to be alerted. About 880 lawyers participated in the research, answeriing questions between January and May this year. 

Lost and stolen smartphones
