UK law firm Morrish Solicitors has signed up to a new-style Alternative Business Structure (ABS) with the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA).

The union now becomes a partner in the Leeds-based LLP. This ABS - which allows non-lawyers to invest in law firms - is the first to involve a trade union. The TSSA has 30,000 members across the railways, London Underground, ports, ferries and other areas. Paul Scholey, senior partner of Morrish, said that the ABS structure allows the firm to cement the relationship with the union, giving a return to the union for the 'enormous' amount of work that it passes to the law firm.
