The total value of deals announced for the year is now $4.6 trillion, ahead of the $4.3 trillion recorded for 2007. Big deals include Pfizer/Allergan in pharma and ABInBev/SABMiller in brewing.

Scott Barshay of Cravath, Swaine & Moore has worked on deals worth over $250 billion this year.
