Lawyers top the tables for having the most costly funerals

Lawyers beat health workers, soldiers, the finance sector and teachers to take the number one slot for a slightly dubious honour - spending the most on their funerals, according to UK company Perfect Choice Funerals.

While the average funeral cost in the UK is now £3,600, Perfect Choice has surveyed 1,846 people to find what proportion of them spend over that amount. The legal sector leads (on 15%), followed by the health sector (13%), then the military (11%), finance (6%) and education (6%). The average price paid by these people is 33% higher than the norm - at £4,800.

To be remembered

People surveyed were those who had lost a family member or friend in the last five years and who had played an active role in organising their funeral. The respondents were also asked if a special request had been made by the deceased prior to dying. Over half (59%) of the deceased had made such a request. For over half of this group the request was 'to be remembered'.
