US legaltech business Consilio has hired Tricia Kinney as chief legal officer, replacing general counsel Mike Flanagan who will continue to advise the company on strategic projects.
Kinney joins from US building products distributor BlueLinx Corporation, where she was GC and corporate secretary. She brings expertise in corporate governance, M&A, risk and compliance. At Consilio she will lead the global legal, compliance and governance functions, reporting directly to CEO Andy Macdonald as part of the executive team. She will be based in Atlanta.
Washington DC-based Consilio specialises in eDiscovery, document review and flexible legal talent services.
Macdonald said: “Tricia is an exceptional legal and business leader whose experience driving governance and risk programmes across complex, global organisations will be invaluable as Consilio continues to scale. Her track record of aligning legal strategy with business growth makes her a strong addition to our leadership team.”
Kinney spent around two years at BlueLinx, having previously been chief legal and compliance officer at home services business ServiceMaster. Prior to that she spent 13 years at health and hygiene giant Kimberly-Clark, where latterly she was deputy GC for Kimberly-Clark Professional and its global supply chain business, among other roles.
She previously worked in private practice as a partner at legacy firm Powell Goldstein (now part of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner), where she practised for a decade.
Flanagan, meanwhile, has been Consilio’s GC for more than 13 years, having joined from Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, where he was a partner. The company said Flanagan will help support the transition and continue to advise on “key initiatives”.
Macdonald added: “I also want to recognise and thank Mike Flanagan for his years of trusted counsel and steadfast leadership – his influence on Consilio’s success has been extraordinary.”
In other in-house US tech moves, in September Microsoft promoted its GC Jonathan Palmer to the CLO role, replacing Hossein Nowbar after two years in the role. In July, US quantum computing and networking company IonQ hired Paul Dacier as its new CLO, replacing Stacey Giamalis. Also in July, US blockchain tech business Marinade Labs hired Zalika Headley as the company’s first GC.
