Luminance, the legal AI start-up backed by Slaughter and May, is ramping up hiring in the US after reporting a sharp increase in revenue in the region.

The UK start-up − founded by two former academics − said growing demand from corporate legal, compliance, finance and procurement departments helped increase US revenue by 2.5 times over the past year. The US now accounts for 44% of global revenue, the company said, though it didn’t respond to a request to disclose financial figures for its revenue.

The latest US hires include senior product adviser Mario Queiroz and vice president of marketing Kim Winter.

Queiroz, who will be based in San Francisco, has more than three decades of experience in the tech industry, including at Palo Alto Networks and Google. He was most recently chief product officer at Abridge, an AI-based supplier of healthcare software.

Winter joins from New York-based startup Yotpo, where she was vice president of product marketing.

Luminance CEO Eleanor Lightbody said: “Mario brings the product and AI rigour of someone who’s helped build some of the world’s most iconic tech platforms. Kim brings the marketing leadership and storytelling muscle needed to define this next category.”

Luminance, whose AI-powered software is used for drafting legal contracts, compliance and discovery, says it works with over 700 organisations in more than 70 countries, including AMD, Hitachi, LG Chem, SiriusXM, Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini.

Back in February, the company raised $75m in a Series C funding round.
