Mayer Brown has announced a strategic arrangement with AI-powered managed legal services provider Scissero, combining the latter’s finance-focused legal workflow tools with Mayer Brown’s structured products practice.
The agreement will allow Mayer Brown clients to use Scissero’s platform as a verification service for automated documents related to structured product issuance. This enables clients to compare their documents with Mayer Brown’s approved templates and pre-agreed transaction rules.
The process enables Mayer Brown to rely on that verification when providing its legal advice.
Scissero’s platform focuses on private equity, investment banks and capital markets, helping with contract drafting and compliance work.
Mayer Brown’s chair, Jon Van Gorp, said: “We’re pleased to launch this initiative, which we’re confident will benefit financial institutions, and realise many of the benefits of AI in an area in which the firm has a leading practice and has been known as an innovator.”
Mathias Strasser, Scissero’s CEO, added: “Our expertise in structured products, AI and automation enables a genuinely differentiated solution that bridges the gap between document automation and Mayer Brown’s legal review and opinion process. We’re delighted to be working with Mayer Brown to bring that vision to market.”
Initially the agreement was focused on US Securities and Exchange Commission-registered products. It has now been extended to SEC-exempt products and European offerings, such as structured unit investment trusts and defined outcome products.
Mayer Brown’s structured products team assists clients with issues including securities and banking law compliance, and tax analysis and disclosure.
The Mayer Brown and Scissero agreement is the latest in a wave of partnerships between legaltech companies and other organisations.
Last month, London-headquartered board technology and advisory firm Board Intelligence partnered with Danish legaltech start-up Juristic, bringing together its governance expertise with Juristic’s AI-powered workflows.
Meanwhile in June, US legaltech provider Consilio completed a strategic partnership deal with AI-based legaltech start-up Eudia, merging its purpose-built AI agents with the firm’s decades-long technology expertise.
