New jewel in Bulgari's crown

Bulgari is stepping further into the hotel industry. The Italian jeweller has reached agreement with Dubai developer Meraas Holding to build a luxury resort on Jumeirah Bay Island.

Opening in 2017, the Bulgari Resort and Residences will comprise a 101 room hotel, 165 residential apartments, 15 mansions, and eight penthouses. Ritz-Carlton will operate the hotel under the Bulgari name. Bulgari has licensed its brand for an undisclosed amount – Meeras will entirely finance the project. The hotel joins others under the Bulgari brand in Milan, Bali and London, with further openings in Beijing and Shanghai scheduled in 2017.

Branding

The developments are a branding strategy rather than a focus on hospitality, executive vice president of Bulgari Hotels and Resorts Silvio Ursini told Reuters. 'Hotels are not a business venture for Bulgari – it’s a design, communication and public relations way of differentiating our brand,' he said.
