New York has finally allowed lawyers licensed outside the city to engage in temporary law practice, the 47th state to follow the American Bar Association's multijurisdictional practice rule. The move will also cover foreign lawyers who are now allowed to provide temporary legal services in New York. The city also extended the rules to corporate counsel, permitting lawyers admitted in non-US jurisdictions to work permanently in New York as registered in-house legal counsel. The new rule will not allow lawyers engaging in temporary practice to establish an office in New York or hold themselves out as being admitted in New York. They would also be subject to New York's Rules of Professional Conduct.
