Pillsbury to strengthen New York office as chair announces fourth term

James Rishwain has been elected chair for a fourth term in which he plans to build up the New York office - but he will retire in late 2016 and will hope to recapture some lost momentum at the firm before that date.

Pillsbury is to strengthen its New York office haveseen

Mr Rishwain will finally stand down from the chair in December 2016. He will have been in post for a decade at that stage - but it has been a tough ten years. The Los Angeles-based property lawyer has been involved in unsuccessful merger discussions - including talks with Orrick. The firm had some 900 lawyers in 2006 but now has 22% fewer - some 700.

New York leverage

He attributed the firm's 'forward-thinking culture' for its successes. He also said: 'New York is one of the strong pillars of our firm and we are going to take advantage of that strength. We have top talent in New York, and we are going to aggressively leverage that talent to develop even greater strength.' Source: Pillsbury and Bloomberg
