The lawyers – who are connected to a Chicago anti-piracy firm known as Prenda Law – were slapped with the fine earlier this month by US federal Judge Otis Wright, reports The Register.
By missing the deadline, the lawyers are each now racking up extra liabilities of $1,000 every day until the fee is met.
According to reports, the self described ‘copyright troll’ lawyers are John Steele, Paul Hansmeier, Paul Duffy, and Brett Gibbs.

Bare-bones defence

In the original hearing, the judge said that the lawyers attempted to ‘outmanoeuvre the legal system’ by accusing individuals of illegally downloading pornographic videos and then offering to settle for a sum calculated to be just below the cost of a ‘bare-bones’ defence.
The four were trying to have Judge Wright's sanctions order stayed at the last minute, which brought them back in front of the judge who refused their request – and because of the delay, the four are now in breach of the original order.
