The 800th anniversary of the agreement between King John and his barons, using the church as an intermediary, is being celebrated around the world over the next few weeks. The meeting at Runnymede, near Windsor, lasted several days in Mid June 1215 - and the documents were famously 'unsigned', the usual practice with treaties at that time.

Celebrations are taking place over the summer in locations which have original versions of the document - including Salisbury Cathedral - and in many other cities and towns. In the US, the ABA is hosting a law day and making the Magna Carta the main theme. On the actual day, there will be an international commemoration event at Runnymede.
