Proskauer Rose has added a leveraged finance partner in London from White & Case, the latest in a series of senior finance hires by the US firm in the City and New York over the past year.
Peter Mason has joined 800-lawyer Proskauer after two years as a partner at White & Case, before which he practised at Freshfields. He advises lenders, sponsors and corporations on complex financings across the capital structure, including European and US-style Term Loan B, bank/bond and direct lending deals. His experience spans leveraged and investment-grade transactions, real estate financings and restructurings.
Proskauer chair Tim Mungovan noted Mason’s extensive experience in both the large-cap and mid-market space.
“Our clients will benefit from his expertise and trusted counsel,” he added.
Mason’s work at White & Case included advising Blackstone Credit on the refinancing of Acuity Knowledge Partners, a research and data company owned by Permira Holdings. He also acted for Three Hills Capital Partners and Barings on the PIK financing to support DBay Advisor’s recommended offer to acquire UK company Alliance Pharma.
Mason is the latest in a string of finance partner hires over the past year by Proskauer across London and New York, with A&O Shearman the main source. Phillip Bowden, the former co-head of legacy Allen & Overy’s global banking practice, joined last summer from the firm in London alongside Megan Lawrence.
Around the same time, Jake Keaveny and Warren Newton – themselves A&O alumni – moved over from Cahill Gordon & Reindel, with the hires adding top-notch syndicated bank bond market experience to Proskauer’s established private credit offering in London.
Later in the year structured finance specialist John Goldfinch also joined the London office from A&O Shearman, while partner Clare Cottle, who specialises in credit-focused restructurings, moved over from Akin. The hires have brought Proskauer’s global finance practice in London to around 40 lawyers, including 15 partners.
“Our global finance team continues to grow in response to increasing client demand,” said Bowden, who co-heads the global finance practice. “[Mason] brings valuable insight and a strong track record spanning the deal spectrum.”
A White & Case spokesperson confirmed Mason’s departure, adding: “We wish him well in the future.”
In New York Proskauer has tapped A&O Shearman for finance partners Lawrence Berkovich, Alexandra de Padua and Frank Oliver, whose practices span CLOs, acquisition financings and leveraged lending transactions. In March leveraged finance partner Heather Viets also joined from Weil.
