Quadrant Chambers has welcomed former 4 Pump Court commercial disputes barrister Andrew Stevens as the latest member of its set in London.
Recognised for his exceptional oral advocacy and cross-examination skills, he is often instructed in complex commercial disputes across diverse sectors, including energy, construction, shipbuilding, shipping and commodities. He is entrusted by firms including Stephenson Harwood, Reed Smith and others, as well as leading P&I Clubs and directly with corporates such as Maersk.
Stevens brings with him experience in Quadrant’s flagship areas in both emerging and established markets, including Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Earlier in his career he appeared in the celebrated Halliburton v Chubb Supreme Court LMAA litigation together with his former set’s then head of chambers Nick Vineall KC.
Stevens said: “I have, over the years, worked with and against many of the extremely talented and exceptionally well-supported [Quadrant] members,” adding he was attracted to the set due to its “shared depth of experience in London, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East”.
His arbitral experience spans most of the world’s major dispute resolution centres, including Singapore, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Beijing, Dubai, Stockholm, Geneva and beyond, including HKIAC, SIAC, ICC, LMAA and LCIA arbitrations.
Poonam Melwani KC, head of Quadrant Chambers, said: “Andrew is a standout advocate with a strong record of success in complex commercial litigation and high-profile international arbitration. I have no doubt he’ll make an immediate and lasting impact on both our clients and our practice.”
Stevens is a UK delegate to the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, a member of the Bar Council’s International Committee, where he chairs the Asia-Pacific Sub-Group, and a long-standing member of the London Circuit Commercial Court Users Committee.
In addition to being called to the Bar in England and Wales, he has rights of audience at the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts and the Astana International Financial Centre Court and is currently acting as counsel in the ADGM. He joins Quadrant following the arrival of Toby Chandler from Crown Office Chambers earlier in the summer.
The set also awarded tenancies to Zhi Yu Foo and Tom Griffiths on completion of pupillage, while also bolstering its junior clerking ranks with the arrival of 4 Pump Court’s James Tanner last year, alongside Sarah Longden’s promotion to chief operations officer.
In other barrister moves, Littleton Chambers announced sports barrister Stephen Flynn had joined its set from 2 Temple Gardens. Flynn is the second barrister to switch sets to Littleton recently, with Rhajiv Bhatt joining from Gatehouse Chambers in August, while the set appointed Clare Bello as chambers director earlier this year.
