Gowling WLG has had its first lateral loss since its merger on Monday, with its international energy and natural resources chief, Kieron Dwyer, leaving to join Mayer Brown’s finance practice in London.

The former co-chief of the asset management unit of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Julie Riewe, will join Debevoise & Plimpton‘s white collar and regulatory defense group as a partner in March, the firm announced on Monday.

Holland & Knight has added Wayne Chancellor to its Denver office as a partner. Prior to this, he served as VP and GC of counsel of AngloGold Ashanti’s Americas division, which has operated in Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, and the US. The move is part of Holland & Knight’s effort to expand in the natural resources sector, particularly in Latin America.

Mayer Brown earlier this month made the rare announcement of a lateral associate hire. Gretel Echarte Morales is a Cuban native who firm leaders said they hope will help its US clients improve relations with the island nation.

Catherine Skulan has moved to Ropes & Gray as counsel in the firm’s private investment funds practice in New York, leaving Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

Financial litigator Stephen Hibbard joined Jones Day as a partner in San Francisco, from Shearman & Sterling.
