Lawyers for Mr Herzog say that they have been given preliminary charges of influence trafficking. Mr Sarkozy has been questioned and charged after an investigation into claims that he received €50m in illegal funding for his campaigning from Libya’s Moammar Gadhafi. Le Monde newspaper is saying that the questioning of Mr Sarkozy this week related to whether he and his lawyers were told about an investigation into the issue by a magistrate and agreed that the magistrate would receive a new post in Monaco. The magistrate did not get the post. Mr Sarkozy is himself a lawyer, specialising in business and family law. Source: The State Journal
