Scotland in bottom league for female judges

Scotland joins Azerbaijan and Armenia at the bottom of the league for fewest female judges in Europe, according to the Council of Europe.

Only 21.6 per cent of Scottish judges are female. Northern Ireland has also had a poor showing with 22.2 per cent of its judiciary female. England was marginally better with female judges accounting for  25 per cent of the judiciary. The UK did, however, come higher on the pay stakes - beaten only by Switzerland in terms of gross annual salary for judges at the Supreme Court or equivilant.
