Senate Intelligence Committee to revive counter-terror social media bill

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D.California) of the Senate Intelligence Committee is now pushing for a renewed raft of legislation that would tighten scrutiny of social media platforms to alert law enforcement to online extremist activity.

According to a spokesman on Monday, Sen. Feinstein will push for a bill that specifically targets extremist groups and the dissemination of propaganda. The bill could come before the end of the week.

Troublingly vague language

Ms Feinstein had already attempted to introduce amended legislation to the Senate’s recent Intelligence Authorisation Act, but was blocked due to ‘troublingly vague’ language.

Major tech companies have already renewed efforts to purge social media of extremist materials following the shootings in California.
