The next Law Society president has warned firms to move out of commoditised work such as conveyancing.

Thio Shen Yi, who is joint head of TSMP Law Corporation, says small firms should move out of 'sunset areas, such as basic conveyancing and accident work, which can be commoditised and churned out without significant lawyer involvement.' He said that they should target sunrise areas such as criminal or family law as a growing population meant more crimes and more divorces.
