Macfarlanes announced today that all six of its trainees who are due to qualify next month have been offered contracts by the firm. The firm offers around 20 training contracts per year, and only kept 14 of the 19 trainees who qualified in the Autumn 2015 round. Marcfarlane's new NQ lawyers will start out on an annual salary of £70,000, though it has not yet been announced which teams they will be working in. Also bouncing back is Osborne Clarke, which has also posted a 100 per cent trainee retention rate up from just 67 per cent in Autumn 2015. All seven of Osborne Clarke's qualifiers will be staying on with the firm—three in London, three in Bristol and one in the Thames Valley.
The good news keeps on flowing for City trainees throughout the Spring round, with many firms posting rates above 80 per cent and a number of firms, including Slaughter and May, Herbert Smith Freehills and US outfit Weil Gotshal & Manges all clocking in above 90 per cent.
