The Global Legal Post has launched a new training arm with a one-day masterclass on legal directory submissions strategy.

The online workshop – Building an effective and efficient directory submissions strategy –will be led by Alex Holtum, director of International Law Firm Solutions (ILFS), and recognises the challenges law firms face in responding to legal directory submissions in a way that does not eat up time but also gets results.

ILFS estimates a researcher covering a single jurisdiction with 20 practice areas will be faced with around 5,000 pages of submissions amounting to six million words to review – the equivalent of reading War and Peace ten times over.

"Our experience is that many law firms spend a ridiculous amount of time putting submissions together,” said Holtum. “Our aim is to persuade people that this can be done much more efficiently. Directory researchers have to read through an enormous volume of submissions so it is vital to focus on what really matters.”

The practical one-day workshop will be limited to 15 delegates and will use the Zoom platform to facilitate an interactive experience with plenty of debate.

Topics covered will include: the internal submissions gathering process; reference gathering; choosing which practice areas to promote and which individuals to put forward; crafting submissions; and making the most of the opportunity to provide feedback.

The first training day is on 15 December, a pre-Christmas date that dovetails with the Chambers and Partner European directory submissions process.
