Town considers giving special terms to in-house lawyers

The town of Norwalk, Connecticut, is considering improving the terms of employment of its four assistant corporation counsels so that they are likely to have longer periods of employment.

At the moment, the lawyers, like some other employees at the council, have to undergo a review and reappointment process at the end of each term for which they were appointed. Under a proposal signed by the outgoing mayor, Richard Moccia, the only way to remove them in future would be for 'just cause'.

Only exception

The lawyers would be the only Norwalk employees who are also members of the Norwalk Assistants and Supervisors Association to benefit from this treatment. Former mayor Moccia signed the proposal after he had lost the mayoral election and the day before he left office. Norwalk has a population of some 86,000. Source: Nancy on Norwalk
