Turkey Twitter ruling marks 'historic' step for free speech

The decision of the highest court in Turkey to order the immediate lifting on the ban on Twitter is 'a historic decision for free speech', according to the law professor who brought the case.

The country’s constitutional court overturned the ban which had been brought personally by prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Professor Yaman Akdeniz, one of the applicants to the case, said: ‘There is no higher court in Turkey, so they need to obey the decision, there is nothing else they can do; there is no appeal. This is a historic decision for free speech.’ Source: Financial Times
