Historic attitudes favouring globalisation are fundamentally changing....
Criminal lawyers in Canada who are double-booked for court appearances and need another criminal lawyer to take their place now have a solution. Created by a group of legal entrepreneurs in Toronto, the new iPhone app, StandIn Law, is a version of taxi app Uber, but aimed at criminal lawyers. It allows lawyers or paralegals to be tracked by location - if they are near a particular courthouse, another lawyer looking for a stand-in there can immediately contact them through the app.
The app automatically sends payment via a credit card, charging a $7.50 transaction fee on top of charges for the stand-in lawyer who can also rate the performance of the stand-in.
