A study, by US News & World Report, looked at the average 2012 law graduate and how their debt tied in with their salary prospects. In 2012, the average law graduate in the US owed approximately $108,000 in debt, with the average private sector salary for law graduates in 2011 at $76,000, ABA Journal reports.

Meanwhile, University of Texas 2012 law grads had an average debt of $86,312 and earned an average starting salary in the private sector in 2011 of $155,000. The salary-to-debt ratio came out highest on the list at 1.796, followed by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at 1.577, Brigham Young University at 1.506, Stanford University at 1.451 and Yale University in at fifth place with a ratio of 1.445. Law graduates at the Florida Coastal School of Law fared the worst in the report, with an average 2012 debt of $143,111 and 2011 average starting salary of $45,000.
