US lawyers wary of advising on legalised pot issues

A growing number of organisations working in the legalised area of marijuana are finding that lawyers, bankers and others are unwilling to do business with them.

The reluctance to deal with them is holding back their plans to open stores and other facilities once they get through the licensing process next year. They fear that federal prosecutors could still come after them even though the Obama administration has vowed not to pursue law-abiding marijuana users and companies. Local lawyer Sean Higgins has lobbied for the use of marijuana for medicinal cases. He said: ‘Right now we have a letter from the federal government saying they won’t prosecute.
