US legaltech firm Aderant acquires people management platform viGlobal

Deal is its third acquisition since 2020, following purchases of Bellefield Systems and American LegalNet

US legaltech firm Aderant has agreed a deal to acquire Toronto-based people management platform viGlobal to bolster its front and back office product offering for law firms.

The deal will give Aderant’s users access to viGlobal’s suite of people management tools designed to improve the recruitment and retention of staff, something that has become increasingly important for law firms amid the broader ‘great resignation’ trend, which saw almost 50 million people quit their jobs last year in the US alone.

Chris Cartrett, CEO of Aderant, said: “In today’s market, to run a better business, you must have strong people management. Bringing viGlobal into the Aderant fold will help us more fully deliver on our goal of holistically supporting law firm leadership as they tackle their most important business challenges. viGlobal’s strong product suite combined with Aderant’s front- and back-office solutions will create stronger integrations for talent management, matter management and resource planning.”

All of viGlobal’s employees are expected to join Aderant, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia, as part of the merger. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Andrew Talpash, co-founder, president and CEO of viGlobal, said: “viGlobal has established an excellent reputation in the people management software space, successfully helping professional services firms to hire, develop and retain the people they cannot afford to lose.”

The viGlobal deal is the company’s third acquisition since May 2020 when it bought time-keeping and compliance software provider Bellefield Systems. It also acquired docketing software provider American LegalNet in December last year. In addition, last year the company launched Aderant Intelligence: Benchmarking, a data analytics platform to help law firms improve their billing processes.

The legaltech market has seen a number of mergers and fundraisings this year. In May, LexisNexis acquired contract lifecycle management software provider Parley Pro to strengthen its CounselLink enterprise legal management platform. And in February, US legaltech firm SurePoint acquired legal CRM platform-maker Cole Valley Software.

Meantime, in the fundraising market, AI-powered contract intelligence platform Evisort raised $100m in a Series C round in May, while contract review startup Della raised £2.5m in its first funding round in March.
