The move has just been approved by the Utah Supreme Court as a way of lowering the costs of simple legal services. The new practitioners will not, however, be allowed to appear in court.
Pro bono - not enough
Explaining the controversial move, Supreme Court Justice Deno Himonas said that lawyers had been trying to do what they could by offering pro bono services. He said: 'But at the end of the day, though, we need to come up with an economically viable model that will help improve access for those individuals in our civil justice system.'
