Vietnam firm secures energy bolt-on

Former Clifford Chance affiliate VILAF has boosted its energy practice by acquiring sole-partner local boutique LDV Lawyers.

Ho Chi Minh City: Luu Hoang Ha joins VILAF

The firm, which is one of the largest in Vietnam, now boasts 11 partners and nearly 50 lawyers after Luu Hoang Ha - the managing partner of LDV Lawyers - became a partner in VILAF’s Ho Chi Minh City office.

According to The Lawyer, Mr Ha is a well respected energy lawyer who has experience in advising Fortune 500 clients and Vietnamese government agencies in a number of complex transactions in Vietnam’s energy and natural resources sector.
VILAF was an ally to London firm Clifford Chance between 1994 and 2000. It recently lost its own managing partner, Tran Anh Duc, to CC’s magic circle rival Allen & Overy. Vo Ha Duyen in Ho Chi Minh City and Tran Tuan Phong in Hanoi now serve as the firm’s managing partners in Vietnam.
Founding partner and chairman of VILAF Ngo Thanh Tung has also suggested that he expects to firm to continue to grow through mergers and lateral hires.
