With the perfect score being 100, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati topped the list with a score of 89.1 Next in line was WilmerHale (86.1), followed by Cooley (83.3), Jones Day (82.2) and McDermott Will & Emery (80.5). The vast majority of the top 20 firms in index have their roots in either hubs of health care innovation in the Midwest, Boston, and California, or in the regulatory hotbed of Washington, DC.

Index criteria

The Index was compiled using the criteria thought to matter most to health care innovators. In addition to collecting data in three practice categories — corporate, intellectual property, and regulatory — Lake Whillans also incorporated information on the firms’ work with start-up companies, as well their thought leadership contributions.
