Chinese cyber-squatter targets global law firms

Law firms should be aware that their brands could be being used without permission in China after a number of global firms discovered their names were being used illegitimately.

It has been reported that at least three global law firms have found their names being used in China as a result of the country’s so-called first-to-register trademark system. Even the largest firms are not immune from these cyber squatters with Squire Patton Boggs, Norton Rose Fulbright and Osborne Clarke all falling victim to the process.

They were all registered to a technology company called Qinhuangdao Hongshun – but now, at least, Norton Rose Fulbright has solved the problem.  Squire Sanders is reportedly working on a solution to tackle the illegitimate activity.
